Awakening the Soul: The Journey Toward Becoming Like the Creator
Awakening the Soul: The Journey Toward Becoming Like the Creator
At the root of all human suffering lies a simple yet profound truth: suffering is the result of our disparity of form with the Creator. The Creator’s essence is pure goodness – giving pleasure to creations – while our innate nature is to receive for ourselves. This essential difference between our selfish nature and the Creator’s giving nature is the cause of our inner emptiness, shame, and suffering.
Spiritual correction is not about external rituals or religious performance; it is an inner transformation. It is the correction of the heart — reshaping our desires so that they mirror the Creator’s endless love and giving. This process is gradual, unfolding through several distinct stages of consciousness.
1. Still Level: No Awareness of the Creator
At the beginning of our journey, we exist at the still level of consciousness. Here, we have no real awareness of the Creator or any higher purpose. We live instinctively, like rocks or minerals — existing but not yet questioning the source of life or the meaning behind it.
The suffering here is the greatest, though it is often deeply unconscious. The soul feels an ache, but it is muted under the surface.
2. Vegetative Level: Awakening to Egoistic Nature
Then comes a first awakening — a stirring within. We graduate to the vegetative level, where we start to want more than mere survival. We begin to feel a subtle yearning for fulfillment, yet we still seek to receive pleasure only for ourselves.
At this stage, we awaken to our egoistic nature — recognizing that while we want goodness, our intentions are self-centered. This realization often brings confusion, dissatisfaction, and the first real perception of inner suffering.
3. Animate Level: Giving to Receive
Gradually, we evolve to the animate level. Here, a major shift happens: we start to realize that simply receiving is not fulfilling. We feel the need to give — but mostly to get something back.
This is similar to growing from a baby (who only takes) into an adult who understands the concept of exchange. We work for a paycheck. We give to others, but deep down it is for self-benefit — social recognition, emotional satisfaction, or material reward.
Still, this is progress! The soul is beginning to move beyond itself.
4. Human Level: Feeling the Needs of Others
Next, we reach the human level. Now, we begin to sense the needs of others — not just to receive from them, but to truly empathize. Charity work, helping family members, volunteering — these acts arise not just from duty, but from an emerging love.
Yet, at this level, giving is still mixed with the desire to feel good about ourselves. It’s more advanced than the vegetative and animate levels but still not pure giving.
Nevertheless, it is a giant leap forward: the soul is tasting altruism.
5. Speaking Level: Alignment with the Creator
Finally, the speaking level calls to us. This is the most profound transformation.
At this point, the human degree no longer satisfies. A deeper yearning emerges — a calling to change our nature completely.
Here, we are no longer obsessed with receiving pleasure. Instead, we find joy in giving pleasure — not for recognition, not for emotional satisfaction — but simply because it is good.
“Love your neighbor as yourself” becomes our living reality, not just a slogan. We start to think, feel, and act like the Creator: selfless, unconditional, joyous in giving.
At this stage, suffering ends, because suffering was the child of selfish desire. As we free ourselves from self-focus, shame dissolves, and true fulfillment floods the soul.

In Summary:
Our spiritual correction is the process of becoming similar to the Creator.
When we are distant from His nature, we suffer.
As we grow closer through inner change — awakening, giving, loving — suffering and shame fall away.
True peace is found not in receiving pleasure, but in giving it to others.
This is the destiny of the soul: to rise through the levels of consciousness until we reflect the infinite goodness of the Creator Himself.
Embracing challenges as an opportunity for transformation and progress is the norm of life and is purpose-driven. Resisting challenges is a sure sign of living in suffering and pain.
