Awakening to Your True Self
Spiritual Coaching Foundations – Awakening to Your True Self
In this third article of the Spiritual Coaching Foundations series, we explore one of the most transformative principles on the path of inner growth: awareness of your spiritual identity. This foundational truth is essential for living in alignment with your soul’s purpose, fulfilling your highest potential, and attracting authentic abundance—not through struggle or ego-driven effort, but through your Divine nature.
To live in truth, you must come to know who you are—and who you are not.
Understanding Identity: Who You Really Are
Your true self is the essence of who you are beneath the roles you play, the expectations you carry, and the image you project to the world. It is your eternal self, untouched by fear, failure, or external definition.
The True Self has two key dimensions:
1. Outer True Self

This is expressed through your values, passions, personality, and preferences—the work that fulfills you, the way you dress, the way you design your space, the rituals that nurture you. These elements reflect your authentic human expression.
2. Inner True Self
This is your Divine Self—the timeless, formless, connected aspect of you that is rooted in love, unity, and truth. It is who you are beyond titles, roles, or achievements. As you awaken to this truth, you begin to experience your oneness with all life. This is the being in “human being.”
The Ego: A False Identity Most People Mistake for Truth
The Ego Self is a constructed identity shaped by fear, approval-seeking, societal roles, and sensory perception. It clings to status, image, and control—convincing you that you are your job title, your appearance, your income, or your success.
Tragically, the vast majority of people live from this false identity, believing it to be real. This misalignment causes pain—fear, distrust, separation, comparison, and limitation—and blocks the flow of love, peace, and prosperity.
How the Ego Sabotages Work and Career
- Fear of Judgment
Fear of what others think prevents you from showing your true gifts or making necessary career changes. - Attachment to Titles and Status
You may stay in a role that feels misaligned simply because of the identity or prestige it gives you. - Comparison and Competition
The ego thrives on “not enough”—always looking to outdo or measure up, which leads to stress and misalignment. - Limiting Self-Perceptions
Phrases like “I’m too old to change” or “I’m not the type to take risks” are egoic limitations, not truth.
How the Ego Sabotages Relationships and Purpose
- Over-Identification with Roles
When you define yourself by your role (parent, partner, leader), you may lose sight of your deeper identity—and relate to others from obligation, not love. - Defensiveness and Blame
The ego avoids vulnerability and rarely admits fault. This blocks deep communication, healing, and connection in relationships. - Conditional Love
The ego gives only to receive, expects others to “complete” you, and bases love on behavior or status—rather than seeing the soul in others. - Resistance to Purpose
The ego fears change and discomfort. Even when your soul calls you toward a meaningful purpose, the ego convinces you to stay safe, unseen, or “realistic.”
How the Ego Sabotages Marriages, Health, and Finances
Marriages
The ego clings to being “right,” keeps score, and fuels resentment. It seeks control or superiority, turning love into power dynamics. Without surrender and humility, the ego slowly erodes trust and emotional intimacy.
Health
The ego identifies with the body, appearance, and perfectionism. It may drive overwork, body shame, or neglect self-care in pursuit of external success. When rooted in fear or disconnection, even wellness efforts can become obsessive or self-punishing.
Finances
Ego links worth to wealth. It fuels scarcity thinking—believing there’s never enough—or obsession with status and material gain. This creates financial anxiety, impulsive spending, or hoarding. True prosperity flows from alignment, not egoic striving.
4 Steps to Reconnect with Your True Self

Awakening
- Acknowledge the Real You
Reflect on your values, passions, and inner guidance. Notice how your body responds when you’re aligned—or misaligned. - Observe the Ego at Work
Catch yourself in fear, comparison, or control. Gently name it: “This is ego, not truth.” - Choose Spirit-Led Action
Honor your soul in small, meaningful choices—how you speak, what you create, where you invest your energy. - Affirm Your Freedom from Ego
Repeat:
“I am not my job. I am not my fear. I am not my ego. I am Divine.”
The Change That Changes Everything
Living from ego is like building a house on shifting sand. Living from your True Self is building on sacred ground.
When you reconnect with your spiritual identity, you break free from fear, conflict, and separation. You step into clarity, compassion, purpose—and a life rich in peace, love, and abundance.
You are not fixed. You are a soul in evolution. Every moment is an invitation to remember who you truly are.
Here’s to the courage to awaken, realign, and rise.
